THE HUMP
FUBAR Shuttles is a memoir on Joseph L. Coulson, which chronicles incredible experiences and is recorded by his son. Corey Coulson blends military, personal adventure, and family legacy. The book follows Coulson’s journey from a farm boy in Minnesota to a prestigious airman serving on one of the most war-torn routes. Coulson developed an inclination for aviation and later joined the military during the war. He was on a mission to fly The Hump, the lethal air route across the Himalayas that carried vital supplies from India to China. Coulson, despite the dangers and risks of the enemy and nature, he and his crew risked their lives on every mission.
The highlight of the memoir is the reconstruction of a damaged B-24 bomber using salvaged parts from crashed aircraft. After the restoration, the crew named the aircraft The FUBAR Shuttlebus, and the heroic craft completed 169 missions. Coulson’s courage, dedication, and technical skills helped sustain Allied operations in Asia. What Our Clients Say
I picked the book and couldn’t put it down. The war chapters gripped me; Elenor’s story was so beautiful and undid me. A nurse who crossed submarine infested eaters and survived V-2 rocket attacks in London. I just sat there with the book; some stories do not need drama; they just need two people who survived the worst.
